Your followers have 24 hours to view your story (image or video) before it disappeared. Stories can be more personal (about what you like or behind the scene / in the studio).
Three new Instagram updates
Since Instagram wants you to spend a lot of time on its platform, here are three new features to ease your life. Updates varies by countries but should be implemented to all or dropped if not used enough.
1 Quick reply
As we all should respond to DM, here is a short cut to respond promptly and easily. Particularly good if you receive more than 50 DM per day.
2 Preview the profile of your followers without clicking on their profile icon
An easy tool to figure out if you need to follow back or not. By maintaining your finger on their DM, you can show their main data: followers, following, nr of posts.
3 IGTV channel
As of today, some of you may enjoy uploading vertical video that will show to your followers as a Story-like format. Boost your engagement by posting regular videos that are from 10 sec. up to 60 min - depending on your account size.
IGTV is a place for vertical videos on Instagram, and it's available in both the native Instagram app and the new standalone IGTV app. And, the film edit app for IGTV costs about £5.
Even though you won't be seeing your favourite TV shows on IGTV, Instagram is trying to make the overall experience a lot like traditional TV.
Everyone who has an Instagram account can create their own IGTV "channel," which is where all your IGTV videos will live (separate from your regular Instagram bio + Instagram Stories Highlights).
How does it look from the computer? And how do you upload videos?
How does it look on your mobile?
You can watch IGTV videos in the Instagram app, in the standalone IGTV app, or by clicking the IGTV button on someone's Instagram profile. When someone you follow posts a new video to IGTV, you'll get a notification in the native Instagram app.
How does it look on your phone?
You can browse what Instagram suggest For you, or your following or Popular and Continue Watching.
"The idea is to let these creators, who have a knack for this style of content and who already have sizeable Instagram audiences, set the norms for what IGTV is about."
This is good news for you because you don't have to create a super polished video in order to upload it to IGTV! As far as production quality goes, think of it like a step up from your Instagram Stories, but it doesn't have to be as perfect or curated like an Instagram post or video would be.
Important settings to remember for your videos, particularly if you edit your videos on the computer.
Instagram curates videos for you based on your interests and who you follow, and you can also watch trending videos on the "popular" channel! And just like you can with Instagram Stories, you can also share IGTV videos with your friends through Instagram Direct.
How to Upload Videos to IGTV:
Step 1: Go to your IGTV Channel by clicking on the little TV icon on the top right side of the homepage. Then click on the setting wheel on the right.
Step 2: Create your new channel
Step 3: Click on your channel icon to view your channel
Step 4: Select a vertical video from your Camera Roll. Upload and write your title and add a description. You can also add links and redirect the viewer to your website! Plus share that video on your FB Page.
Step 5: Add a cover photo! You can upload your own custom cover, or choose a thumbnail from your video. The cover photo is what will show up on your channel page and in the IGTV categories, so make it catchy!
Step 6: Click the post button and celebrate! You've just uploaded your first video to your IGTV channel.
But as we all know, you don't know the success if you do not measure it.
Step 7: View Your IGTV Analytics
Click on the "..." button on the right side of the like, comment, and share buttons on your IGTV video.
From here you can click "View Insights" or copy the link to your video (you can also delete your video here if you need to).
When you click on "View Insights" you'll be able to see your views, likes, and comments.
You can also see your audience retention rate, which is how many people watched entirely your video, and you can even see a drop-off graph which tells you when people are swiping away from your video.
And finally, do not forget to respond to comments 😜
Your IGTV Channel will be on the left-end side of your Story Highlights.
